The Journal of Dracula studies is open for submissions for its upcoming 2025 issue. We invite manuscripts of scholarly articles (4000-6000 words) on any of the following: Bram Stoker, the novel Dracula, the historical Dracula, the vampire in literature including folklore, fiction, film, popular culture, and related topics. For our 2025 issue we are especially interested in work looking at F.W. Murnau's 1922 film Nosferatu and its remakes/adaptations, as well as its influence on the legacy of Stoker's work and vampire literature more broadly. Submissions should be sent electronically (as an e-mail attachment in .docx). Please indicate the title of your submission in the subject line of your e-mail.

The Journal of Dracula Studies is accepting submissions of manuscripts of scholarly articles (4000-6000 words) for a 2020 Special Issue focusing on witches and witchcraft. Papers may examine the figure of the witch and/or the practice of witchcraft in literature, film, folklore, and popular culture. Submissions are due by January 1, 2020. Possible topics include the following:


  • witches, wizards, warlocks, cunning folk
  • magic and magical practices
  • hexing and spell casting
  • witches throughout history
  • witch hunts and witch trials
  • witchcraft and feminism
  • witchcraft and New Age spirituality
  • witchcraft and political activism
  • witchcraft and spiritualism: seances, spirit communication
  • culturally diverse witchcraft practices: Voodoo, conjure, pow wow, etc.
  • depictions of witches and witchcraft in film, television, and popular culture

In 2015 we will be publishing a special edition of the Journal of Dracula Studies to mark the 20th anniversary of our Chapter. The theme of this edition will be The Horror Classics.

We invite manuscripts of scholarly, reader-friendly, articles of 3000 words or less for The Horror Classics. We are looking for articles which explore the classic horror monsters of literature, film, comics from the
Golden Age of horror (Tales From the Crypt etc), and TV: The Mummy, Ghosts, The Witch, Mad Scientists, Swamp Monsters, Zombies, The Haunted House, The Werewolf, Aliens, Edward Gory etc. (For this special edition, we are not publishing material on the Vampire). Material is not limited to any historical era.

We require that articles be free of jargon and over-dependence on literary criticism.
